Business challenge
Our client is a government-owned medical software development provider serving as a digital transformation enabler under the Ministry of Health. Their innovative vision for a healthcare ecosystem involves a network of connected e-services aimed at increasing the quality of medical examinations and general health indicators in the country. To realize this vision, they needed a technology partner with proven expertise in medical software engineering to help them efficiently implement their digital strategy.
Our client’s region is experiencing rapid economic growth and faces a significant influx of visitors and workers from other countries putting an extra burden on the healthcare system while posing health risks to nationals. This strain on the healthcare system also slowed down the issuance of visas, as the traditional, paper-based visa application procedure couldn’t handle the growing number of applicants. This challenge could not be solved otherwise than by digital means. However, our client’s existing medical software for handling expatriate checkups was not able to scale easily along with the increasing number of expat home countries.
Digitizing healthcare checkup services and linking them into a single network would streamline visa processes. To implement this plan, our client chose Intellias based on our profound experience in medical software development and building digital platforms from the ground up.
Solution delivered
Our collaboration on this project developed out of other medical software solutions we have been successfully delivering to the client. This has allowed us to leverage a common knowledge base and share specialists across projects, optimizing the development cost and production time for our partner. Moreover, having Intellias full-stack engineers on board significantly facilitates team management, as there’s no need to sync backend and frontend activities. Our QA, business analysis, and UI/UX specialists are also involved to ensure a verified, functional, and user-friendly design.
The medical examination software we are building for our client within their e-health services system is a web portal for health and fitness evaluations of people coming to the region from abroad in search of work or for tourism. It serves several high-level purposes:
- Monitor the medical conditions of individuals arriving to the country to eliminate health risks
- Verify the quality of checkups in expats’ countries of origin to ensure adherence to the highest medical standards
- Digitize the healthcare sector and reduce paperwork to establish a smart e-health ecosystem of medical software solutions
- Streamline visa issuance to handle the growing number of visitors and workers from abroad
Functionality-wise, our client’s medical examination software is a purpose-built website that handles different scenarios based on user roles:
- Expats can book appointments for checkups at certified local medical centers and print out appointment slips upon payment.
- Medical centers can enter checkup results of applicants and apply for accreditation to be eligible to participate in the health checkup program.
- Authorities can view statistics and keep track of health indicators nation-wide as well as verify and audit medical centers.
While elaborating user roles and corresponding interaction scenarios for this medical software, Intellias UI/UX designers dove deep into research and went through several iterations of sketching, wireframing, user journey creation, and prototyping to come up with an impeccable, human-centric design.
To allow for automated deployment, scaling, and management of the healthcare solution, the Intellias DevOps service assisted our client in migrating their infrastructure to Kubernetes, ensuring hassle-free delivery orchestration.
One of our primary tasks was to stabilize the system in the face of increasingly high loads. Tapping into the cumulative expertise of our top professionals within our Centers of Excellence helped us effectively tackle this challenge by enhancing the database design.
The next milestone in medical software development for our client was integrating with a third-party payment provider. We expertly handled this task by relying on our proficiency in e-payment systems. Equal distribution of checkup appointments between available medical centers to prevent overbooking was yet another non-trivial task effectively accomplished by the Intellias team.
Business outcome
Thanks to the efforts of Intellias specialists, our client released the main flow for applicants within five months of starting work with us. In further iterations of this medical software development project, we added new features, continuously expanding the functionality. Currently, we’re rolling out a flow for medical centers to streamline the certification process in response to COVID-19 by providing indispensable means of remote communication. In the near future, our client plans to work with us to optimize the design for mobile devices, taking their healthcare solution to the next level.
Business outcome
Since the beginning of this partnership, Intellias has been a reliable technology provider of end-to-end medical software development and expert consulting services for our client. We helped them build a robust, user-centered healthcare solution that boasts 25,000 users per day, 2,000 simultaneous sessions, and 200,000 medical appointments with total online payments of $2 million per month.
Already available in 21 countries with a combined population of 3 billion, the medical software we have delivered scales easily, providing for high performance and extensibility at a fast pace. As our client continues to modernize the region’s healthcare sector by building next-generation e-services, they are committed to strengthening our collaboration in this exciting digital transformation journey.
