We joined forces with our long-term partner, a non-profit healthcare organization and insurance provider, to create an easy-to-use appointment booking platform. The client needed expert developers and data analysts to join their team and provide the skills and knowledge necessary for developing a web platform capable of real-time data processing and enabling intuitive appointment booking.
In addition to actively participating in development of the web portal, our experts shared their knowledge with the client’s team, supporting team members in building high-tech healthcare solutions.
Our client is a US-based non-profit healthcare provider committed to helping people in need of medical services connect with doctors or clinics. Founded more than 50 years ago, the company now offers a wide range of healthcare services, including appointment scheduling and health insurance provision.
Business challenge
The client set an ambitious goal of creating an easy no-registration service that enables users to search for primary healthcare providers in their vicinity and browse available appointment slots. Offering a straightforward visit booking feature, the service had considerable conversion-boosting potential, giving our client a serious competitive advantage.
To support all designed functionality, the project called for the use of innovative technologies such as big data processing and data analytics. Because healthcare data is extremely sensitive and subject to multiple strict regulations, cloud migration requires special skill and care.
While working on the project, the client’s team identified certain skill gaps they wanted to fill with senior-level consultancy. Solution
Focused on building a team of experienced senior-level developers and architects, we assigned experts in data-related technologies and web development to the client’s project. Our consultants advised the healthcare provider’s team on putting together the most effective technology stack for the project, including:
- Spring Boot, allowing the creation of standalone microservices-based applications in an accelerated flow
- Stencil for easily and intuitively building web applications from reusable components
- NoteExpress as a reference management tool
- OpenShift, offering a private cloud hosting platform for the application
- Databricks for intelligent data processing
As a result of our collaboration, the client now offers a full-featured appointment booking platform that does not require logging in to access basic functionality for finding a doctor and arranging a visit. Due to powerful data processing capabilities, the platform can handle multiple simultaneous search and booking requests, creating a smooth user flow.
The platform supports user login, too, allowing access to a wider set of features, including information on current insurance status and available coverage of selected medical services.
The team also implemented integrations with third-party data providers, improving the patient experience by enabling doctor ratings on the platform.
Business outcomes
By offering a new medical appointment booking service, the healthcare provider achieved an immediate competitive advantage through letting users succeed in securing their doctor visits without creating an account. This feature enabled a smooth flow for new users, making it much easier for them to explore the service and, finally, make an appointment.
With transparent search and scheduling functionality that supports finding medical providers within a specified distance and based on their publicly available rating, our client has improved the availability of the medical services they offer.
