Drive-And-Play Gamification Platform for Premium EV Brand

A scalable in-car gamification platform that transforms vehicle telemetry into an immersive brand experience, encouraging safer and more efficient driving

Project snapshot

Intellias developed a drive-and-play in-car gamification platform on Android OS for a premium electric vehicle manufacturer. The gamification platform for EV turns vehicle telemetry into near-real-time driving insights, eco-driving scores, personalized feedback, challenges, rewards, and shareable achievements, encouraging safer and more energy-efficient driving.

Integrated directly into the vehicle infotainment system, the EV gamification platform connects low-level vehicle data with an engaging, context-aware customer experience. Its modular, brand-agnostic architecture supports rollout across different vehicle models and brands while reducing development effort for each additional model by 50–70%.

Business challenge

The client wanted to differentiate its premium EV offering in an increasingly competitive market where digital cockpit and software-defined experiences are becoming an important part of the automotive value proposition. The goal was to create an in-vehicle experience that could turn existing vehicle telemetry into meaningful customer interactions rather than simply displaying technical driving data. The platform needed to:

  • Encourage long-term interaction with the vehicle’s digital services
  • Promote safer and more energy-efficient EV driving behavior
  • Create a recognizable lifestyle-oriented brand experience
  • Generate opportunities for organic social engagement
  • Scale efficiently across different vehicle models and potentially multiple automotive brands

At the same time, the solution had to connect low-level vehicle signals with a responsive user interface while complying with driver-distraction requirements and supporting future platform expansion.

Solution

Intellias combined automotive software engineering, product design, android automotive app development, telemetry analytics, and gamification mechanics to create an E2E drive-and-play platform embedded into the vehicle infotainment environment.

The platform converts raw vehicle telemetry into clear performance metrics and uses those insights to provide drivers with feedback, progression mechanics, contextual challenges, virtual rewards, and shareable achievements.

Customer-centric solution development

Intellias shaped both the platform’s technical foundation and the customer experience around several core principles:

  • Telemetry-to-UX integration: Created a seamless connection between low-level vehicle sensor data and a high-fidelity, near-real-time driver experience.
  • Market-driven product design: Analyzed regional digital behaviors, customer expectations, and competitor offerings to identify engagement mechanics with global market potential.
  • Platform-first engineering: Designed a modular, brand-agnostic architecture that can support multiple vehicle models and visual identities without rebuilding the underlying platform.
  • Telemetry-powered gamification: Transformed driving data into an interactive representation of driver performance, encouraging safer and more sustainable driving habits through continuous feedback.

How the drive-and-play platform works

Standardized vehicle integration layer

The platform consumes low-latency signals from the vehicle sensor ecosystem, including energy consumption, pedal engagement, accelerometer data, and safety-system events. A standardized integration layer separates vehicle-specific data acquisition from the engagement logic, simplifying deployment across different vehicle configurations.

Proprietary engagement and analytics engine

Vehicle signals are processed into meaningful driving metrics, performance indicators, and progression points. The engine evaluates driving behavior in near real time, while an LLM-based feedback layer turns these metrics into short, plain-language tips tailored to each driver’s style, making the feedback easy to understand and act on.

Gamification mechanics

The platform applies engagement patterns including identity progression, real-time feedback, contextual challenges, virtual rewards, achievements, and social proof. These mechanics encourage repeat interaction while supporting safe and energy-efficient driving behavior.

Context-aware in-vehicle experience

Processed insights are presented through a high-quality automotive interface integrated into the infotainment system. The UX is designed around driver-distraction requirements, presenting relevant information without creating unnecessary cognitive load.

Social sharing

Drivers can turn their achievements into shareable digital content. An on-screen QR code enables users to export results and achievements to external channels, extending the experience beyond the vehicle and creating opportunities for organic brand visibility.

Multi-brand platform architecture

The underlying data-processing and engagement methods built on Android Automotive platform remains consistent while the visual experience can be reskinned for different vehicle brands. This enables OEMs to preserve individual brand identities while reusing the same technical foundation.

Business outcome

The drive-and-play electric vehicle gamification platform gives the client a reusable digital foundation for turning vehicle telemetry into an ongoing customer experience. It supports both strategic business goals for the automotive brand and practical value for drivers.

Client’s strategic benefits:

  • Brand differentiation: Transforms the vehicle from a mobility product into a lifestyle-oriented digital experience built around personalized interaction and gamification.
  • Social amplification: Shareable driving achievements encourage organic visibility and allow drivers to promote their experiences beyond the vehicle.
  • Higher customer engagement: Reward-based progression, challenges, and personalized feedback create additional reasons for customers to interact with in-car and connected digital services
  • Sustainability advocacy: Eco-driving mechanics encourage more energy-efficient driving and support fleet-efficiency and ESG objectives through measurable indicators such as kWh/100 km.
  • Cost efficiency: The standardized vehicle integration layer and reusable platform architecture enable rollout across additional vehicle models with 50–70% lower development effort compared with building a separate solution for each vehicle.
  • Scalable digital ecosystem: The EV gamigication platform can be extended across vehicle models, brands, companion applications, and additional connected services without rebuilding the core technical foundation.

End-user benefits

  • Actionable personalized insights: Near-real-time feedback translates raw vehicle telemetry into clear and practical information about driving performance.
  • Gamified engagement and habit formation: Progression mechanics, challenges, rewards, and continuous feedback encourage safer and more energy-efficient driving habits.
  • Tangible EV value realization: Drivers can see and understand indicators related to vehicle efficiency and driving behavior, making EV performance more visible and measurable.
  • Social identity and recognition: Drivers can build a personalized digital identity around their achievements and share selected results through connected social experiences.
