London, UK — Mar 20, 2023 — Digitally Inspired, part of Intellias, collaborated with City Plumbing Suppliers (CPS), one of the UK’s largest builders’ merchants, on delivering a unified, cloud-based eCommerce solution. The companies together transformed CPS’s legacy monolith architecture into an agile, digitally-enabled microservices platform. The project was recognised among the finalists of the 2023 DevOps Excellence Awards and spotlighted as the “Highly Commended” runner-up.
The annual DevOps Excellence Awards by Computing honour companies and individual teams who are pushing the boundaries of DevOps practices. The awards cover a range of categories — from the best continuous delivery product to the most successful cultural transformations.
Intellias was selected as a finalist in the “DevOps Project of the Year”, along with 8×8, Accenture, Vodafone UK, and Amdocs. The judging panel included tech leaders from Bloomberg, Specsavers, Meta, The Law Society, and NVIDIA among others.
We’re delighted to be among top-class DevOps practitioners and tech experts. By leveraging our solutions and expertise in digital enablement, CPS successfully upgraded to new AWS infrastructure for its eCommerce operations, boasting higher availability, agility, and scaling potential.
To improve its digital sales capabilities, CPS required significant updates to its legacy eCommerce platform, operated in conjunction with Travis Perkins (a CPS parent company). Intellias’ support of CPS included cloud-native architecture planning on AWS, CI/CD and CT processes setup, and the delivery of new microservices-based architecture (totalling 200 new services).
Within the newly established DevOps environment, platform functionality is rapidly and securely promoted to the production environment via automated deployment pipelines. Integrated automated testing ensures that each new deployment is fault-free and secure by design.
The online retail industry underwent major growth. Merchants need to support multiple digital sales channels and offer top-notch customer experience (CX). We have helped CPS build a core platform that can continuously adapt to the customers’ evolving behaviours and journeys. It has lower TCO, thanks to the security and cost efficiency of the infrastructure, plus development processes optimisation.
City Plumbing Suppliers (CPS) is continuing to transform into a modern digital-first retailer with the ability to deploy new competitive platform features and innovative customer solutions.
