Fletchers made the decision early to invest in AI, having recognized the opportunity in the market to modernize medical records processing and legal operations. Whilst many of their competitors grappled with implementing internal AI automation tools, Fletchers engaged Intellias to help build a solution to expedite review efficiency, strengthen risk detection capabilities and accelerate the company’s strategy to create new AI-enabled services for the legal market.

Business Challenge

For clinical negligence and personal injury cases, legal teams review thousands of pages of medical and case-related documents before making decisions. A single case can involve over 3,000 pages of records requiring careful by clinical experts before recommendations can be made to legal teams.

Having established a dedicated AI team as part of their strategic growth aspirations, our customer needed a partner with experience in the automation of clinical services to help launch a market-leading product that accelerates labour-intensive medical and legal reviews without sacrificing accuracy. Together with the customer’s engineering team we;

• Built complex UIs that enable new ways of working and facilitate adoption with clinical teams, creating engaging user experiences suitable for time-poor legal professionals
• Helped to embed AI into the human workflow without sacrificing on quality or losing oversight,
• Enabled automated review and checking with AI instead of blind trust, improving the compliance auditing and risk detection processes.
• Built scalable products capable of generating entirely new revenue streams, deriving actionable insight from large, complex document collections easier
• Helped to lay the foundation for a broader future investments in AI product solutions and a more automated legal operations ecosystem.

Members of the Fletcher’s team had worked with Intellias previously in the past and so our customer chose to engage once again with a trusted technology partner capable of turning AI concepts into production-ready solutions that could be deployed and integrated into real-world legal workflows.

Our solution

The engagement began with workshops, stakeholder interviews and workflow analysis, followed by proof-of-concept development to understand how legal and clinical experts interact with large document sets. Intellias engineers validated technical feasibility, including approaches for handling and navigating extremely large PDF-based case files.

Working alongside the Fletchers AI team, Intellias helped to bring two strategic initiatives to production.

AI-accelerated medical claims processing platform

To help bring an accelerated clinical negligence case assessment solution to market, Intellias worked with the customer to develop and refine a platform that:

• Uses AI to summarize and categorize medical records with an engaging UI for easy engagement with non-technical teams.
• Detects duplicates and related content.
• Improves navigation across large document collections.
• Supports annotations and collaboration.
• Enables document exports aligned with legal workflows.
• Maintains user control through manual review and override capabilities.

Automated AI legal operations platform

Intellias also helped develop a broader legal AI solution designed to assist lawyers with:

• Whole-case analysis.
• Cross-document search and interrogation.
• Compliance and audit workflows.
• Case summarization and drafting.
• Knowledge retrieval with citations.
• AI-assisted document management.

The architecture was built to support future expansion including integrations with case management systems, document repositories, workflow automation and advanced AI agent capabilities.

Business outcomes

The engagement enabled our customer to realize operational and commercial gains from its long-standing investment in AI. As a result, by applying AI to traditionally document-heavy legal and clinical processes, the company increased the speed of expert reviews, enhanced compliance oversight, and simplified how teams worked with large volumes of case data. The solution has enabled Fletchers to sidestep investment in one of the many legal AI models available on the market by simply building their own.
